Применительно к экономической деятельности это — общий термин, охватывающий различные экономические и внеэкономические последствия функционирования экономических систем. В литературе встречаются три несовпадающие толкования этого термина: 1. Так или иначе измеренный или оцененный объем продукции (в широком смысле слова, т.е. выпуск, включающий, например, материальные и нематериальные услуги, загрязняющие среду отходы и т.д.,), произведенной в процессе функционирования системы; следовательно, Р. — это выход системы, воздействие ее функционирования на внешнюю среду. В данном случае измерить Р. — значит дать внешнюю оценку функционирования системы. 2. Разница между полезной частью выпуска системы — ее продуктом и затратами ресурсов на его производство. Здесь рассматриваются Р., характеризующие изменение самой системы — прежде всего накопление или уменьшение (истощение) ее ресурсов. (Указанная разница, выраженная в стоимостных оценках, — экономический эффект). Следовательно, в этом смысле в качестве экономического Р. общественного производства в стране принимаются не совокупный общественный продукт, а конечный продукт (или по иной методике счета — национальный доход), в качестве Р. работы завода — не объем его продукции (выпуск), а прибыль. 3. Наиболее общее, политико-экономическое значение термина: Р. экономической деятельности есть удовлетворение общественных потребностей в тех или иных благах, т.е. увеличение совокупной общественной полезности. При этом, так же как в пп. 1 и 2, мнения о необходимости учета затрат расходятся. Разработка методов достоверного соизмерения затрат и результатов — одна из коренных проблем экономической науки и экономико-математических методов — в частности.
