Boot from USB RMD-FDD
SYSLINUX 3.82 ля-ля-ля.
Could not find kernel image: linux
boot:_

Флешка совершенно нормальная, другой комп с нее грузится без проблем. По сети грузить возможности нет. Всевозможные танцы с бубном уже сделаны. Кто-то сталкивался? Мысли есть?

Биос ты наверное обновлял. Еще отформатируй флешку в FAT, не FAT32. Если не поможет, значит не судьба загружаться с флешки на этой матери. Кроме флешки можно еще грузить машину с сидирома или с винта. А по сети почему нельзя?

Если очень хочется загрузить именно эту машину именно с флешки, то спроси у гугла:

RMD-FDD «Could not find kernel image»

Но там очень много букв будет, и большая часть без решения.

PS. Все таки FAT16 имеет значение. Флешка была 4 Гб, форматилась по умолчанию в FAT32. После того как разбил ее на пару разделов 128Мб и все остальное, 128 мег отформатились в FAT16 и эта падла стала таки грузиться, хоть и с тормозами от души, и определяясь все так же USB RMD-FDD. Уж не знаю почему раньше это не получалось, сейчас работает. Тему можно закрывать. Хотя саму проблему можно вынести наверное в FAQ.

PS. Все таки FAT16 имеет значение. Флешка была 4 Гб, форматилась по умолчанию в FAT32. После того как разбил ее на пару разделов 128Мб и все остальное, 128 мег отформатились в FAT16 и эта падла стала таки грузиться, хоть и с тормозами от души, и определяясь все так же USB RMD-FDD. Установка Debian

Попытался я тут установить Debian 6.0.1a Squeeze.Закатал его на флешку..и при перезагрузке компа выдает такое:

could not kernel image:linux

Загуглил..ничего толкового не нашел по проблеме.Мб не там искал?:( Помогите. Что там писать надо?

С помощью UltraIso.Если точнее то через функцию «Записать образ жесткого диска».Всегда работало при установке с флешки(именно при записи таким образом).Единственное что сообщила прога после записи это «Файл isolinux был переименован в syslinux».При попытке установить ОС файл был переименован в изначальное название.Но не помогло(думал в этом может быть проблема).

пробуйте установщик на флешку с сайта ubuntu или гтуищщешт

Да и пробовал прописывать путь к папке isolinux,syslinux..выдает вышеописанную ошибку,с требование указать что-то или путь куда-то.

Так и надо. isolinux — загрузчик ядра для файловой системы iso9660, а при записи на флешку негибридного образа на флешке создаётся vfat и туда копируются все файлы с образа, но загрузчиком будет уже syslinux. А в каталоге isolinux, который был переименован, были конфиги загрузчика. Обычно они совместимы.

Значит, менюшка не завелась. После строки ‘boot:’ нажми [tab] и посмотри, какие варианты загрузки есть. Один из них выбери, напиши, нажми [return], грузись.

Попробовал Ваш совет.При нажатии «Tab» ниже просто выходит еще раз сообщение «boot: » и никаких вариантов больше.Буду пробовать варианты с загрузчиками.

UltraISO работает, как мы убедились, не всегда.
Как и сказали выше, можно попробовать Unetbootin (он умеет ставить netinstall).

Чтобы ставить систему с флешки, как с компакт-диска, придётся немного поработать руками.
Вкратце:
скачать подготовленные ядро и initrd из директории hd-media, скопировать на носитель, поставить на него syslinux, написать конфиг, скопировать iso-образ debian (подробнее см. руководство по установке)

Вообще раньше net install debian не был гибридным и даже перенос файлов с iso образа и переименовывание isolinux.cfg и каталога syslinux не помогало, так как initrd в образе не был рассчитан на поиск установочного носителя на usb/hdd, Поэтому есть подготовленные образы для флеш накопителей, ищите, вроде сейчас этот проект признан официальным и переехал на debian.org. Помимо прочего есть два руководства по установке Debian на EeePC с помощью флеш накопителя, там использует net install образ, посмотрите.

Может, когда писал, флешку не отмонтировал? У меня с netinstall все ОК.

Вообщем попробовал установить с диска..записал.Выдает такую же ошибку,что и при записи на флешку с помощью ультраизо.После boot ничего не происходит.

Использовал unebootin для записи на флешку.При попытке установить выдает > «BOOTMGR is missing» и нажмите контрл+альт+дилит для перезагрузки.И все.

Остряк появился и начинает всех обсирать..причем тут извращенцы?Или ты думаешь я не читал??Все по 2-3 раза перечитал и сделал..тоже не 1 раз..не работает..или ты думаешь я от нечего делать сижу «тупые» посты пишу?

Избранный появился. Документация официальная. У всех работает, у него не работает.

На правах оффтопа. Кстати, как там ведет себя дебиан с семерочкой? Помнится с ней всегда проблемы были, ибо там загрузчик ее какой-то особенный. Недавно, около 2х месяцев назад, на работе дядька попросил поставить ему мандриву поверх семерочки. Ну я сдуру согласился и поставил, типа мандрива, юзерфрендли, все дела, проблем быть не должно. В итоге мандрива радостно полезла прописывать на винт граб, прописала, но семерочка запускаться отказалась. Перерыв весь гугль и неделю плясав с бубном я так и не добился результата. Причем потом пришлось еще неделю плясать с бубном чтоб восстановить загрузчик винды.

Ставил debian (6.0.1 с обновлением на wheezy, 7.0) на ноут с семёрочкой. Получилось две семёрочки. Никаких проблем с загрузкой ни того, ни другого. Единственное, что не радует — в xfce на рабочем столе висят иконки от дисков с windows, спрятать никак нельзя, а монтировать их только для этого не хочется.

Есть всевозможные liveusb других дистрибутивов, загружаешься с них и вот у тебя линукс и все советы имеют силу.

Попробовал — не работает. При загрузке иконка так и висит. Монтируешь — сразу исчезает, но пока не смонтировано, висит.

В KDE точно такое есть. У меня прописано в fstab 2 вендовых раздела и куча несуществующих девайсов для флешек (они появляются, когда флешки вставляются). Так вот KDE показывает только флешки.

Когда-то у меня было Xfce 4.6 (во времена hal’а ещё), в fstab’е была аналогичная ситуация (один вендовый раздел был noauto,nouser, другой, кажется, просто noauto), и по-моему Xfce не показывало значки для вендов, но мне может и изменять память. Флешки точно показывал, даже если примонтировать (в fstab’е было noauto, потому что они изначально не вставлены). Сейчас же hal везде выпилили, теперь может быть и по-другому. Проверить, к сожалению, не могу, Xfce нигде не осталось.

Да, сейчас в xfce используется udisks, поэтому и не работает. Видимо предполагается, что udisks будет предоставлять информацию обо всём, что найдёт, а клиенты сами должны фильтровать. В xfdesktop фильтра пока нет.

Спасибо за советы..и за ссылку на dd для винды.Установил.Теперь решаю проблему выбором ОС для загрузки.

При загрузке выдает экран с выбором ОС и при выборе семерки она не загружается.Гуглю сижу)))

З.Ы.После таких проблем с установкой на флешку-буду ставить только с диска 😀

I use the template and it produces this error.

So this seems to refer to the following lines in definition.rb

I was able to create the with 10.04 but not 12.04.1.

Something wrong with my machine or what?

Also, for ubuntu12.04 and above, they use PAE kernel. We should also include :pae => ‘on’ (comment it out though) just in case. This probably enables the vbox pae emulator (which has performance hit).

It should be possible to build 11.10 server, then upgrade to 12.04.

I am thinking I should make a pull request later to include, at least that one file change?
I can test 12.04-package as well if you want me to confirm.

It’s strange as you said. Maybe for older machine it takes a little longer for the scene to switch, which has a delay so typing isn’t accurate? If so, maybe typing should be longer? I haven’t dived into the codebase yet but maybe adds delay to typing (at least the initial).

I just updated the veewee repo on my system, and did bundle update because of this new commit acec0d5, which might solve my issue.

I am not familiar with ruby so I assume doing update will update the underlying package.

I found this message after putting Fedora core5 DVD into my laptop, BenQ Joybook 5000u. Please note that this DVD was used to successfully install core5 into another computer.

I also tried to press the options such as F1, F2, F3. but it didn’t response.

I also tried putting Fedora core4 DVD rather, and it was working good, in which I could be into graphical installation pages(anaconda). However I wish to install core5.

Here are the few questions.
1. Do I have to put more kernel parameters like the stanton-finley notes say «linux vga=792»? If yes, which commands could I try?

2. Is it possible if I install core4 right now and then use the core5 DVD to viga so that it is similar to installing core5?

Please help me. I am a novice from Thailand who is against illegal Microsoft Windows OS and right now wishes to use Fedora.

So search the web (or these forums!) for info on how you create/configure a local reposity for Fedora and then install Core 4 and configure the DVD to be that reposity where you update. You should be fine. You can update FC4 to FC5 using yum and internet reposities, too, but that didn’t work quite so fluently when I did it (succeeded, though).

I think I may have found the problem. I also encountered the above error as well as the «invalid compressed format» error others have posted (even through the CD verified ok by the burning software). Then I went through my CDs looking for another distro and found some FC5 CDs I had burned quite awhile ago. I figured I would give them a try — worked like a charm!

So what I think happened is I used «Toast» burning software tonight and had these problems, but used the Disk Utility software (this is all under Mac OS X) to burn the CDs previously.

Perhaps if you try another burning software your problem will go away.

I encountered this error on a portable Linux install. This Error: Could not Find Kernel Image: Linux Pendrivelinux post helped me fix the problem.

I got this same error while trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my 2gig pendrive. I used this pretty good guide located here http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-ubu. on-persistent/ to install it on the flash drive. After quite a few failed attempts at getting it to boot, i looked for a solution to this issue. I found this page as well http://www.pendrivelinux.com/error-c. l-image-linux/

Now, this page has some good ideas for a solution, and actually helped me fix the problem. Although the only step that really helped me was the one that reads «If a file named isolinux.cfg exists and syslinux.cfg does not, rename isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg» This is where I started brainstorming a bit. I tried it and it would not work still, so i began toying around with what i could. I found that there was no syslinux.cfg in the disk after the install, so i found the isolinux.cfg file and changed it to syslinux.cfg. (This didnt work completely) So after that failed, i left that file renamed to syslinux.cfg AND ALSO renamed the folder «isolinux» to «syslinux»

TA-DA! Ubuntu booted as well as i could have imagined. Hope this helps every1 with this issue as well.

P.S. I also decided to change the usb disk drive letter to «J», as another usb-boot method like this required a letter from «B» to «K».

Every time I ran into this problem it was ’cause syslinux wasn’t installed to usb,
there was no valid syslinux.cfg/isolinux.cfg menu entry, or sometimes syslinux needs to be reinstalled.

Even though many distro maker’s use a isolinux.cfg similar to this

It is really not right; isolinux does have the ability to go find the kernel/initrd, etc
However, I have ALWAYS found that if you give the Absolute path to everything; it usually works flawlessly
Here is what any isolinux/syslinux.cfg should look like

And, with syslinux, you must always give absolute path to kernel/initrd and you can’t have any filenames longer than 8 letters and extensions of no more than 3 letters
so, like «tinycore.gz» is ok, but «microcore.gz» does not work with syslinux(I told them?!), cause it’s 9 letters.

Unetbootin Often screws this up too.

If you extract the iso, edit the isolinux.cfg and show full path to
kernel/initrd with forward slashes «/», and then recreate the iso
I bet it works

You can use a script to recreate iso as long as you have
mkisofs installed(cdrtools, genisoimage, or similar)
here is one script to make a isolinux iso

That’s from slax «slax» folder, there’s one for windows too(.bat)
you must have the above script in the /boot folder and there must be a isolinux folder containg isolinux.bin and isolinux.boot
If you click it and press «run», it will create a iso named «boot.iso»
if you click it and choose «run in terminal», you can give it a name, it must end in «.iso», so «mycd.iso» will work.

Here is another isolinux iso script from riplinux

here is a simple script to make a Grub stage2_eltorito iso image

the code above is editable; «grub_boot.iso» is the name iso will be given, «linux» is the name of the folder that will be made into a iso image.
Also, this script must be in the same folder as the «linux» folder, not in /boot or not inside the «linux» folder.

I use these all the time ’cause I get tired of having to re-type it all in terminal

For debugging, be sure to have a look at your syslog. I have used the dnsmasq DHCP server which sends its logs to syslog ( /var/log/syslog ). ISC’s DHCP sever should do something similar.
