If you have nothing to loose, give it a try.

So far every person posting in the thread is X470 Crosshair/Prime mobo, that link is for X370 Crosshair.

I don’t have Aura installed, and never have had. I have no interest in lights. which is why I turned them off in the BIOS.

All I want to do is access the BIOS. Now I can’t since the mobo goes into this 30 minute lockout while it is apparently attempting to update the LED firmware. After 30 minutes, Win10 boots and I am never given a chance to hit the delete key in order to access the BIOS.

Perhaps if I watch the monitor like a hawk near the 30 minute mark, there will be some brief moment that the delete key access to the BIOS would be available before the OS boots. but the timing of that single key stroke will be difficult to pull off.

Found this thread cause I’m seeing the same led bios update issue.

You could try to disconnect your mouse and keyboard to get it to go to the bios. At least that worked for me once time after I had cleared the CMOS. Unfortunately, when I went into the bios and disabled the leds, it did not solve the problem. Working on uninstalling aura app/drivers/services from windows to see if that resolves the issue.

Working now

Just an update as my PC appears to be working again.

Only thing I can recall doing is uninstalling the aura drivers, rebooting (still had the led firmware updating message). Once I got into windows, I reinstalled the latest aura drivers available on the asus site for the zenith board and when it wanted a reboot, I let it reboot the machine. and it appeared to work (no led bio update message, no 1 hr wait time)

No idea if this helps anyone, YMMV

My 45 minute delay to boot due to LED firmware update is finally gone. Whew. it’s been a couple of months and it’s a nasty problem to live with (especially if you need to go into the BIOS. you need to wait staring at the screen for that 10 second window when you can hit the delete key before windows boots up).

Here’s at least some of what I did; however, I don’t know which step fixed it. I updated the BIOS to the latest version (v4204 11/30/18). This alone did not fix it. At some point the BIOS decided that I had to reenter all my modified BIOS settings. I did this, but it screwed up my boot priorities. The system booted up my test system on another hard drive instead of my main system drive. In the process of trying to fix that, W10 went into system recovery (I think for the test system). Somehow screwing around with that, and then re-ordering my boot priorities in the BIOS, fixed it.

P.S. Note I don’t use Aura and never have. It’s not installed and never was.

After 2 or 3 days of no boot delays, the «LED firmware update» 45 minute delay is back.

All I can think of is that there is a ASUS task somewhere that is checking for firmware updates. Perhaps after my repair, this firware update code was downloaded to my system again and scheduled to be applied at the next boot up.

This problem is making this mobo practically unusable.

I’m having exactly the same issue on the C7H. Latest BIOS (1103).

Weird enough the problem started when my Seasonic 1000w platinum died (after 6 years of abuse) and I replaced it with an even older NZXT 700w I had. Not sure if it has anything to do with this problem but coincidences are worth noting.

First time it happened (about 2 days ago), PC went to sleep, a few hours later, when I tried to resume it to continue working, PC would NOT wake up from sleep. So, I forced a restart. Immediately after, the message «BIOS IS UPDATING LED FIRMWARE» appeared for the 1st time.

Identically to OP, I waited around 45 min, and then it finally booted into Windows 10 (x64). Once it boots, everything works fine. Programs, games, benchmarks, even the AURA software works perfectly. (!?)

Another thing worth noting is that, now, every time this message appears when trying to boot, I just completely POWER OFF the PSU. I wait 1 or 2 minutes so energy completely dispels. After that, I power the PSU back ON, and the PC refuses to POWER ON again for a few minutes (even with the motherboard power on button), then after a few minutes more it powers ON again by it self, like magic. When it does, it tells me that memory settings have been reseted due to failure to boot, I enter bios, keep all my «overclocked» settings (that are still there BTW) and I just Save and Quit, without changing anything and the PC boots normally.

My spider sense is telling me that this problem is related to this one:

And if it is, it is definitely something wrong with BIOS 1103 and anything related to RGB.

Next BIOS should include a proper LED FIRMWARE update, solving all of this.

What I don’t understand, is that I used BIOS 1103 since it was released and this never happened to me before, with my Seasonic 1000w Platinum. And it suddenly started when I changed the PSU to the NZXT 700w.

Solved to me

Fellows, I had the same problem, but finally was solved.
When I first assembled the mobo and installed the windows 10, I had no problems at all
Then, I installed Asus Grid with a lot drivers and some tools. At this moment, my problem started. 45 min to boot, with same message.
I tried update BIOS, nothing
tried disable Aura on windows software, nothing
tried update other drivers, nothing
looked for more information on internet, almost nothing
well, at that time I thought to rewirte the bios using the DVD that comes, using procedure to recover corrupted BIOS.
I Turned off and connected the DVD drive.I entered on bios setup, and before try the DVD I tried also update BIOS from Internet direclty from BIOS setup, which booted the mobo and gave me the answer that firmware was already updated. After that, on Windows, I installed AI Suite 3 and EZupdate, tried disable Aura. Boot again, entering on bios setup again.
Well, I tried to disable the aura (on bios) and changed value to enable virtualization. Booted, and then no more problem.
I am not sure if was disabling aura on bios, or a combination of changes, or a sequence, but it is working for me right now. I will not try to enable aura again until be sure what is the problem.

Just forgot to say. Mine is a B450-i, 32GB RAM Corsair Vengeance 2666, NVM Samsung EVO 970

First of all sorry for my english.

I had the same issue with a Rog Strix B450-F

Make sure you have updated BIOS (my version is 3003). I turned off AURA on BIOS menu and running my OS. After some days (a bit more than a week) turning on my computer everyday (and waiting till windows starts) the problem disappeared.

I will inform in case it appears again.

I hope it helps to you.

If I was in your shoes I’d flash a very old UEFI using flashback. As this would contain older versions of ASUS EC/LED firmware, it should instigate a reflash of each; then I would flash to latest UEFI, again using flashback.

Had this all the time oc ram, had to turn PSU off and up the ram voltage and basically get stable.

Can someone with this error run this tool (cmd or power shell as administrator), save their firmware and send it to me for debug?

No joy. ;-( LED EC2 Version Blank.

My System still works fine once booted but No AURA Lighting Effects and takes 30 minutes to boot.

I’m going to arrange an RMA return to ASUS via my supplier. This is a pain as I live in a Regional area and the store I purchased the Motherboard is a fair distance away so if I wish to return the Motherboard I will need to take a whole day off to do so. I could arrange a courier or postal return but this will take several days. I’m also not happy about having to teardown my system to remove the Motherboard. Was updating to 1001 BIOS a big mistake. YES
Have now tried to downgrade BIOS to 0801 but no joy at all, the damage has been done. Also have tried the latest beta BIOS as a last ditch attempt.. ;-(

Have checked hardware all connectors appear okay. No issues before BIOS 1001 Update.

I continue to be plagued by this problem of a 30 minute wait to re-boot while the «LED firmware updating» message is displayed.

I disabled the Aura lights in the BIOS on the mobo since I am not interested in them. It occurred to me that perhaps I must have them enabled for the never ending firmware update to complete. However, it’s a Catch-22 since I am never given an opportunity to access the BIOS via the «delete» key. One can’t access the BIOS while this firmware update is running (or waiting, or whatever it is doing). After 30 minutes the mobo finally continues and boots the operating system.

Can someone suggest a way I can break into this cycle and access the BIOS? Perhaps by enabling the Aura lights, the firmware update will complete and I can rid myself of this annoying problem.
