You have a corrupted Profile and don’t know how to recover it? Well, that was my problem too. So here is how to fix it!

Note that I am german, so please do not dislike this post just because of some grammar or spelling mistakes.

Also, there is no guarantee that it will work for you. It worked for me but that actually means nothing at all.

Basically the Path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\X\632360\remote\UserProfiles
(X stands for the folder with your Steam ID)

Here is an example for two different Profiles:

If you have just one file, you should read that part too!

So, if you have more than one file, it’s easier to spot the right file then you think. But note that the file has a different name than the Profile name. The easiest way is to go through every file and look for signs of corruption. Open the files with a text editor, like Notepad++ oder the normal Windows editor.
Here is an example for a normal Save File:

If you open it with Notepad++, it will look like this:
(Note that this one line will have like 75,000 columns)

If you open it with Editor, it will look like this:

You can choose what is better for you.
Once you are in the text editor, you will probably see it instantly, if it’s corrupted or not.

If it’s not, everything should look like the pictures above.

If it is, there should be a huge part consisting of NUL NUL NUL NUL NUL (in Notepad++).

In the Editor, I don’t know what it looks like, and unfortunately I have no picture of both variants (being corrupted).

The main thing about the fixing is cutting the weird-looking part out. You are looking for the beginning of this part, and highlight it by pressing Ctrl + Shift + RightArrowKey until you reach the end. Then you just cut it out. Then you jump to (or stay at) the position of the cut and check whether there are any mistakes.

That’s basically it! If you want to recover your profile faster in the future, you just can manually create a backup folder on your desktop or something, in which you copy your game file(s) after every time you play, so if the file(s) should corrupt another time, you just have to copy them from your backup folder into the real Profile folder.

Firs time: I had tried my first game, and I quit the game through the menu, no force quit or crash. Upon starting the game again, the profile was corrupted.

Tried again, new profile created, played for a bit, quit the game, entered the game again. Now I have two corrupted profiles in the list. I will try and see if it happens a third time.

Edit 1: Yup. Issue reproduced every time. Launch the game, create a profile, play for a bit, quit the game, enter the game. Profile is corrupted. I have now 3 corrupted profiles.

I have a theory it is caused by emoji in my nickname. Will try another without emoji.

Edit 2: OK, so I launched the game again after changing my nick to another without an emoji. Now I have three corrupted profiles like I saw previously, but also a fourth working profile with the same name as the latest corrupted profile I saw. So it seems changing my nick did something.

I have the same issue as Fjern slektning. I did exactly as Druark said to do but it didn’t work. Created a backup folder, saved the files in the backup folder, I verified by getting into RoR2 that the old file was the corrupted one. I clicked to rename the new file, copied the full file name, then deleted it, and renamed the old file with the copied file name. This didn’t work for me.

The old file has 0 kb of storage the newer file had 110 kb of storage, I’m wondering if for this workaround to work, the storage still needs to be there?

Sadly my conclusion for this issue was to create by my own skills an edited «new game» profile. In a nutshell you start a new profile and then you go into the ng profile file to add the previous items / challenges / and so on. stuffs to create a mirror version of your corrupted old profile (R.I.P. for him there’s no way to get it back).

But now it should not happen again because of the 1.0 version of the game apparently, if it happen there’s no more way to conclued «that’s because of the beta version blabla. «. So for anyone who’s facing that now you can report the problem.

I was playing with my friends. We defeated teleportation boss and fully charged the portal. After that I opened a chest and got an error. My client closed then I logged backed in to see that my profile got corrupted. Lost all the progress.

I’m not sure if this could be caused by the same thing, but doing this fixed it for me when my save stopped showing up:

it’s likely not actually gone. It’s in your userdate folder in steam at
D:\Games\Steam\userdata\YourNumber\632360\remote\UserProfiles

Just make a new profile in game once you’ve backed up the old one, close the game, rename the old one to the name of the new one (Delete the actual new one) and the progress will be back as if it was your old save.

И так что мы делаем мы заходим в свойства Risk of rain 2. Вот сюда:

И открываем параметры запуска:

И пишем туда: -window-mode exclusive.

Теперь заходим в папку Risk of Rain 2.

Дальше открывается папка где находим папку с название (Risk of Rain 2_Data):

И пишем этот в текстовый документ вот эти строчки:
