Ошибка при русификации смартфона Xiaomi с помощью MoreLocale 2

Сегодня пишем очередное дополнение. На этот раз к инструкции по русификации смартфона Xiaomi с помощью приложения MoreLocale 2. К сожалению, не у всех пользователей, она проходит гладко, о чем нам было сообщено с помощью формы обратной связи. Проблема, на которую были жалобы — это ошибка приблизительно такого вида:

C:\ADB>adb shell pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION
Operation not allowed: java.lang.SecurityException: grantRuntimePermission: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.GRANT_RUNTIME_PERMISSIONS.

Она возникает, если не активировать пункт USB Debugging (Security settings) в меню «Для разработчиков» (смотреть пункт 5.1 инструкции по русификации).

Но, при попытке его активации, возникает еще одна ошибка: «This devices is temporarily restricted». Для ее устранения необходимо:

Если случилось так, что после этого ошибка не пропала и пункт по прежнему не включается, то нам придется воспользоваться VPN, чтобы показать смартфону, что он соединяется с сервером из Китая. Рассмотрим на примере бесплатного сайта VPNGate. Вы можете использовать любой другой.

How to fix “this device is temporarily restricted” error in Xiaomi devices.

Xiaomi is a Chinese based company which is hugely popular in China, India, and many other Asian countries. Xiaomi holds almost 22% market share in India, these statics shows how popular these companies are in Asian countries.

Xiaomi offers great phones at affordable prices which is why they hold huge market share in Asia. A company like this comes with some irritating bugs which might be an intentional one due to security issues. However, these errors are irritating and need to be fixed.

In some Xiaomi devices “Install via USB” option in “developer options” cannot be turned on with a message popping:”this device is temporarily restricted”. By default, this option will be turned off to ensure the security of the device.

Process

Follow the methods in order. Ex: if method 1 didn’t work, then go for method 2.

The Device is Temporarily Restricted — A frustrated research on MIUI Bug.

Hi Guys, few days ago, when I was happy with my life and my Android code was jumping out of my Android Studio into my Xiaomi Mi5 phone very smoothly, something BAD happened to me. 😛

I tried to toggle that button which says, ‘Install Via USB’ but then I saw something which was new to me. A toast message which says, ‘The device is temporarily restricted’. Since then, frustration began. Why the heck my device is temporarily restricted? I am not a terrorist. 😛

Then, of course just like any of us, I went to one and only Google, and started searching and it is hardly possible that nothing is available on Google. After all, it is Google. 🙂 And I started trying to execute all the solutions available on first 5 pages of Google results, which included following primarily:

D isable WiFi and switch install via USB on while you are connected through data and under your Xiaomi account. It works! — — Me: Arrrggghhhh…Didn’t work for me.

Turn USB debugging on and off 20–30 times then spamming install via USB option and it would work. — — Me: I almost broke my screen guard with my finger but no luck 😛

First enable the USB debugging (security settings) then enable install via USB, it would work. — — Me: Please somebody kill me, it is also giving same error.

However, jokes apart, above mentioned solutions are not waste. Those are also definitely working on some of the devices as people are reporting but didn’t work for me. After playing Stepu with Google, I thought I should just sell my Mi5 and get some stock Android for development but I loved it man. 🙁

Then, used emulator for 2–3 days but its speed was so awesome that I couldn’t stand to it.

Some serious stuff:
Then, one fine night, I just decided to find at least root cause for this irritating bug, which may or may not lead to the solution. I spent 2 good hours genuinely at it and Voila…I got a clue about root cause…and when you get root cause, solution is not too far.

You must have noticed that if you try to toggle this option which says, ‘Install via USB’, you must be connected to the Internet and logged in to your Mi account. This gave me clue that it is something which requires a network hit and Mi account and then probably, some response from Mi servers is deciding that whether to let user turn on this option or not. Then, I noticed that mostly people are facing this issue in India only. Somehow, I got feeling that due to some reason, requests triggering from India IPs are getting rejected and hence leading to this issue. I just connected to phone to some open VPN of China and tried to toggle ‘Install via USB’ option again and…Magic happened. It got enabled. Then I also enabled, USB debugging (Security Settings). Then, I disconnected from that China VPN and cross-checked if still my Developer Option settings are working fine. Everything was as sweet as Android’s every release, whether it is D for Donut or O for Oreo. 🙂
