I had removed Qt from my Surface pro 4 and reinstall it since it seemed unable to find QtQuick controls and othe qml related modules. After performing the install procedure, I tried to open qt creator and I got this message
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. Available platform plugins are: direct2d, minimal, offscreen, windows

Copy the folder plugins/platforms from your Qt build to the folder containing your executable. This should get it running.
Check whether you have an environment variable (system-wide or user-level) QT_PLUGIN_PATH defined. If so, try to remove it (or rename for later restoration). I had one Qt program installed which added this environment variable during its installation procedure and afterwards was unable to even start QtCreator or other self-built Qt5 programs even though the ‘platforms’ subdirectory was present and contained the required dlls. You may have to reboot for the change to take effect.
This is one of the methods to fix the issue:
It replaces the qwindows.dll file and it all works smooth.
METHOD 2: Go to (or wherever you have python installed) C:\Python38-32\Scripts and look for desginer. Click on it and voila you have a working desginer.

Hello. Recently, after a Windows update, I was unable to get OneDrive to work. Whenever my PC boots, I receive an error “Application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized.” Any advice on how to deal with this issue? Thanks in advance.
Windows operating system consists of many components – some are already pre-installed while others need to be implemented manually. For example, Node.js is one of the third-party components you would see on almost any Windows computer.
Qt is a C++-based [1] framework that is designed to create applications on Windows, Android, Linux, [2] and other platforms. While it is not a programming language on its own, apps that are based on it need to have the framework installed on their machines to be able to run. Unfortunately, these dependencies can create certain issues due to one reason or another.
When something goes wrong with the Qt platform, users may receive the “Application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized” error.
Several applications could be affected by this error, including games such as Apex Legends, [3] standalone components (Dllhost), or commonly-used apps as OneDrive. The latter resides in every Windows computer and is an extremely useful app commonly used for system/file backups or additional storage for user files.
Here’s the full message that users receive upon encountering the error (the error message text may vary in some instances):
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Available platform plugins are: minimal, offscreen, windows.
While it may seem like enabling or installing the Qt platform would fix the “Application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized” error, it is not the case. Reinstalling the app that is having difficulties detecting the plugin might help, however.
Unfortunately, that is not always possible, as users reported that they then received the “Can’t be found” error while trying to do so. The reason for this being is that a newer version of the app may be already present on the device, hence uninstallation is not possible. There is a way around it.
In some cases, the reasons for the error could be unrelated to the ones mentioned above. For example, system file corruption might also cause this error, so we recommend you try running a scan with Reimage Mac Washing Machine X9 repair software that could fix underlying Windows issues automatically. Otherwise, proceed with the below methods that should help you solve this error for good.
Method 1. Copy relevant folder to a different location
Method 2. Check system files for damage
Method 3. Try Clean Boot
Once booted back into Windows, try running the app you were having problems with. If that fixes your problem, it means that there is a third-party application that is at fault. In order to fix the “Application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized” error, you should uninstall all recently installed applications and see if that solves your problem in normal mode.
Method 4. Reinstall the application in question
You should try uninstalling the app you are having troubles with and then installing it anew. If you are dealing with OneDrive, you should do the following:
If this method does not work and you are presented with an error, proceed with the method below and then repeat this step.
Method 5. Uninstall the problematic app via Command Prompt
Uninstalling a program that does not want to uninstall might be difficult, although it is possible via PowerShell, as you can launch it as an administrator. Keep in mind that the below example is for the OneDrive application, and the command would differ depending on the app name and its location.

I read several posts about this topic here and in other websites, but most were about the older versions of QT. I tried to apply them but whit no results. I also tried to reinstall QT and to update whatever I can update.

I have compiled the client for windows from open source. On my PC client is starting and working normal as it should. If am trying to launch the bin directory from the other PC I get this error:

I am suddenly experiencing this exact error when I logon to Windows and OwnCloud Client is automatically started.
If I start Owncloud client manually, there is no problem.
It is happening since version 2.7.2
2.7.1 was ok.
Running on Windows 10 20H2.
Edit: Now I am puzzled, it seems the latest update installed owncloud client to the C:\ root folder.

@esackbauer this issue is about self-compiled ownCloud Win builds. Do you use self-compiled ownCloud desktop client, or one downloaded from ownCloud website?

Ok, its all sorted now. I uninstalled ownCloud client, removed any traces in the file system, rebooted, and then did a clean install.
Now it properly installed into c:\program files\owncloud as its supposed to.
Also the qt error during startup is now gone.

I have the same problem as you had. Mine ownCloud client is also installed on C:\ root folder and is version 2.7.3
Do I have to synchronize again all data after I uninstall and perform new installation of ownCloud.
I mean, do I have to copy again all data from cloud to my computer or new installation of ownCloud will recognize structure of folders which were synchronized before?

Actually this happened again to me, when updating to 2.7.3! It seems something is wrong with the update procedures.
I uninstalled 2.7.2, and downloaded 2.7.3, all settings were taken over, no need to sync again.
Which version of Windows are you on?
Can someone reopen this? Or do we need to file a new issue?

I’m sorry for the inconvenience with the installation to C:/.
This happened when your initial install of the client was from the 64bit MSI and then the autoupdater installed the 32bit version for you.
This was reported in #8297 and fixed since then.
The autoupdater now correctly updates 64bit installs to 64bit binaries, so this won’t happen automatically anymore.
