Blender 2.78 can’t import any FBX exported from Cheetah v7

I tried all options, from exporting as FBX 6.1.0 and FBX 7.5.0 (all both as binary and Ascii even though Blender only accepts binary).

For FBX 6.1.0 Blender error was:
Version 6100 unsupported, must be 7100 or later.

But when I did export as the later FBX 7.5.0 it said:
Unsupported FBX version (7500), binary format is incompatible!

The only way I was able to get an FBX from Cheetah into Blender 2.78a was to first convert it to FBX 2013 version using Autodesk’s free (but no longer maintained) FBX converter.

Is FBX 2013 a version between 6.1.0 and 7.50?

I was transferring a morph animation to Blender Shape Keys and Collada didn’t seem to work for that, though I had no trouble importing the model itself as dae.

Will need to double check on that agin though when I am in front of my computer. I might not have looked at the shape keys when I imported the Collada file.

After converting using the Autodesk app the FBX file came in with its Shape Key animations perfectly though.

I don’t think its Cheetah I think the issue is in fact Blender. When I was Googling the problem I found a bunch of posts with Blender users having an issue with FBX import.

What could be useful, though, is if Cheetah maybe afford additional FBX versions to export to since the Autodesk 2013 versions seem to work with Blender. But then I really don’t know ho much additional work that would be for Martin. Guess we could always just use the Autodesk converter. But at some point that may no longer work with newer OS versions.

Ok, I’ve made some very simple cube animations in each app and try all three of them in the other. Blender FBX to MODO works. MODO to Blender works with some odd scaling of the camera etc. C3d to Blender acts like it’s importing right, but the cube and animation are nowhere to be seen. C3d to MODO flat out refused to open it at all.

Maybe my settings aren’t right either. Attaching the three files if anyone else wants to look.

edit:
I didn’t see this Blender error on importing the C3d FBX until after posting this. «Couldn’t open file «C3d FBX Test.fbx» (Unsupported FBX version (7500), binary format is incompatible!)

edit 2:
The other version of FBX gives this error in Blender. «ASCII FBX files are not supported C3d FBX Test v6.fbx»

Oops, I see you’ve already posted those errors! Maybe Martin can chime in?

Hi,
Cheetah3D 7 is using the latest FBX SDK 2017.1 which exports to the FBX 7.5.0 file format by default. The FBX 7.5.0 file format was introduced with the FBX SDK 2016 and is incompatible with all FBX SDKs older than 2016.

The problem with the new FBX 7.5.0 file format is that all integers are now saved in 64Bit and no longer in 32Bit. I’m actually not sure why Autodesk did this troublesome decision since 32Bit integers should be more than enough for todays needs. I also don’t think that they did the FBX file format a favor by completely breaking backward compatibility.

Unluckily the FBX SDK 2017 can’t generate 7.4.0 files anymore. But apps which haven’t updated to the FBX SDK 2016 should still be able to import FBX 6.1.0 files but I’m not sure how compatible the FBX 6.1.0 files generated by 2017.1 are.

The FBX SDK 2013 is quite outdated. It was already released in early 2012 and generates FBX 7.3.0 files. So maybe it’s a good time to update the importer in Blender.

While it is possible to bundle various older FBX SDKs it’s not really possible for me for two reasons.
1. The APIs of the FBX SDK changes regularly so I can’t use the same exporter code for all versions of the FBX SDK. I would have to maintain various versions of my exporter class. The work would linearly grow with every FBX SDK I support.
2. I would be forces to bundle various shared libraries of the FBX SDK. But it has a 30 MByte file size. Since Autodesk releases every year a FBX SDK the fie size of Cheetah3D would grow every year by 30 MByte.

how to import source models into blender

Is there a way to import FBX version 6100 into Blender?

Unfortunately, these files are old and Blender is unable to load the respective FBX version 6100. Instead, Blender uses FBX version 7100 by default. I needed a tool so I could import the old FBX files into Blender. This tool converts the FBX version 6100 files to FBX version 7100, so they can be imported by Blender.

Is there an older version of Blender that supports FBX?

That’s strange, must be quite an old model. You can try getting and older version of Blender and importing it with that, I’m only guessing but maybe an older version will support the older FBX format. Then maybe export FBX or another format. There’s also FBX Review.

How to install a better version of Blender?

Download the new version of the product. Launch Blender, navigate to File->User Preference->Addons, type ‘better’ in the search box, the add-on will appear, click the small triangle beside the add-on to expand the contents, click the ‘Remove’ button to remove the add-on. Install the new version of the product.

Are there any GPUs that do not work with Blender?

Unfortunately, there are still some GPUs where Blender does not run reliably, and we won’t be able to officially support them for the 2.80 release. All these are cases where the OpenGL driver was last updated 3 years ago or more. While Blender does not officially support such older hardware, we do not prevent Blender from running on it.

Version 6100 unsupported must be 7100 or later blender что делать

As requested by cad-guy.

Download the attached «user-appdata-roaming-moi.rar» file first (at the bottom of this message), it also has the
text files for the setup instructions in it, but here they are:

It assumes that you have a default installation on the C: drive.

This UI works both in version3 and version 4 of Moi

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS ON YOUR WINDOWS
INSTALLATION. IF NOT, SIGN IN AS A USER WHO DOES.

Don’t forget to read the «Death UI Modding.txt» file, it contains info on how to use the Object Library
Script and Extras Folders and more customization hints.

1. Go to your «C:\users\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME HERE\AppData\» directory.

2. Right-click on the Moi directory, but don’t enter it.

3. Select «copy» from the popup menu

4. Right click anywhere in the AppData listing

5. Select «Paste» from the pop-up directory. You have now created a back-up of your
original Moi directory. (In case a mistake happens, you can always restore the original)

1. Click the Moi directory (a subfolder of the AppData directory)

2. Pres CTRL-A (that’s the «control» key and the «A» key pressed together). This
should highlight all entries in the Moi directory.

3. Deselect your license key(s) by «Control»-clicking (pressing the «Ctrl» key and click).

Your license key looks like «moi_v4_license.key» for example. You might have more
than one license key, one per version you own; if so, Ctrl-click these too. Now
everything BUT your license key files should be selected, press the del (delete) key
and all the files in the directory should be deleted, all but the license key(s).

1. Copy the «Death UI.rar» file to the «C:\users\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME
HERE\AppData\moi» directory. You should see it and the license files, nothing more.

2. Right click the Death UI.rar file and select «Extract Here» from the pop-up menu.
This extracts your updated Moi directory with everything need.

3. Delete the «Death UI.rar» file, it is not need anymore and just takes up the space here.

4. Edit the moi.ini file. You need to change the entry under «[Commands]» to point to your path. Change the
«AdditionalCommandsDirs=C:\Users\Jack\AppData\Roaming\MoI\extras»
to:
«AdditionalCommandsDirs=C:\Users\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MoI\extras»

This will enable the EXTRAS scripts within Moi for you.

5.) copy the «Reverse.png» image from the new «C:\Users\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MoI\ui»
to the:
«C:\Program Files\Moi 4.0\ui» directory

Among the new directories extracted is the «ui» directory. Enter it and right-click the «moi.css» file, and select Copy from the drop down menu. Now go to the C:\Program Files\moi 4.0″ directory, right-click in it and select Paste from the drop-down menu, overwriting the moi.css file there. (you might want to first make a backup copy of it in case you want to revert some day).

Well, you’re done. (Sort of, read the «Necessary Changes» and the «Death UI Modding» text file next, to make it all your very own.)

1. Start Moi, don’t worry about the look/size of items, we change that now. Click the
«Options» button (lower right bottom of your screen) and the Options panel will pop up.
Click the «Restore Defaults» Button on the Options Panel.

2. Set the Units system to: «No unit system» from the drop down. You can later make this anything you prefer.

3. Scroll the UI slider to 9.5

4. Click the View Tab.
Click the Background color patch, the windows color selector will pop up, type 48,48,48
into the RED, Green and Blue fields. Click the «Locked Objects use alternate color»
checkbox to set it, if it isn’t checked already. Click the color patch next to it and enter
120,120,120 for Red, Green and Blue then click the OK button.

5. Click the Grid Tab.
Set the Grid size to: 1
Set the Snap size to: 1
Set the X axis color to: 80, 120,80 for Red, Green and Blue
Set the Y axis color to: 150,80,80 for Red, Green and Blue.
Set the Z axis color to: 181,186,191 for Red, Green and Blue.
Set the grid Lines Color to: 64,64,64 for Red Green and Blue.
Set the Accented grid lines Color to: 72,72,72 for Red, Green and Blue.

6. Click the Dimensions Tab. Under Formatting:
Set the Distance display to: Decimal.
Set the Fractional display to: 1.0000

7. Click the Close Button of the Options panel, you’re done.

You now have custom Neutral Gray Dark UI, 399 commands in the commands
section, 247 commands in the extras section and a Greeble, Kitbash, Objects and
RPG library, permanently open command panels in Moi (no more tab clicking
before you get to an operation) and a reverse button for flipping views to their opposite
in every view window but the 3D view.

MANY THANKS TO ALL THE GREAT MOI’ERS WHO HAVE WRITTEN THE
COMMANDS, UI ADDS AND TO MICHAEL FOR PUTTING ME ON THE RIGHT
TRACK SO MANY TIMES.

PS: To change the look of the 3D objects in Moi, just click the Extras button on the bottom
toolbar and the last entries there starting with a «-» are all the different display types you
can select. One click will do. There are 14 of them and the default.
Select «-LightDEFAULT» there to reset to Moi’s original display style.

2) Now has the alignment button rearranged so they are more in sync with their action, i.e. Align Vert center/Horiz center, top/bottom/, left/right button are now next to each other.

3) Circe and Arc now include tangents in the options panel.

4) Shortcut keys: Shift-V now saves the current 3d View, V restores it, ALT-V deletes all saved Views. (anytime you hit SHIFT-V it saves the current 3d view and hitting V cycles through them, very useful.

5) Dimensions Panel now open by default, instead of SubD.
